Rebuilding Together Hartford Appoints New Executive Director

Nonprofit’s goal is to make homes safer and healthier for low income Hartford homeowners!

Hartford, CT February 2024 — Rebuilding Together Hartford, the local affiliate of the leading national nonprofit organization with a mission to repair the homes of people in need, revitalize our community, and rebuild lives, is proud to announce the appointment of a new Executive Director.

Effective February 5, 2024, Dawn Whalen has joined the Rebuilding Together Hartford Family. With over a decade as a nonprofit executive practitioner, Ms. Whalen brings a unique blend of expertise in program development, community and capacity building and organizational management to the role of Executive Director for Rebuilding Together Hartford. As the former Executive Director of a local Habitat for Humanity affiliate, Dawn directed initiatives to promote sustainable homeownership through financial literacy programs and routine home maintenance education.

Her background also includes overseeing affordable homeownership projects from renovations to new construction, ensuring compliance and effective site design.  Most recently, Dawn led a project to bring fundraising best practice strategies to all-volunteer led affordable housing organizations.  The Board and I are excited to have Dawn on board as we prepare for the next 30 years ahead.  RTH is a unique organization with the ability to keep residents in their home and assist with the creation of generational wealth here in Hartford said Janice Castle, Board President of Rebuilding Together Hartford “With Dawn on board, I am excited to see where we can go under her leadership.”

As the organization celebrates its 30th anniversary, we have the unique opportunity to make strides in our ability to provide critical home repairs and aging in place modifications for Hartford homeowners. “I am in amazement of the depth of support I’ve received from everyone involved with Rebuilding Together Hartford as well as the National Office,” said Whalen, “I’ve hit the ground running and see the absolute potential to make a significant impact in the community as we work together to serve Hartford homeowners.

As always, our signature event, National Rebuilding Day, is scheduled for the fourth Saturday in April – this year on Saturday, April 27th.  This year the Board of Directors elected to work on 14 homes encompassing several blocks in the Blue Hills neighborhood of Hartford.  Please keep an eye out on our social media and website (www.rthartford.org) for updates on volunteering – our online volunteer application is set to open mid-March.

Rebuilding Together Hartford (RTH) is a nonprofit organization with a mission of repairing homes, revitalizing communities, and rebuilding lives. The organization provides critical home repairs to ensure the safety and health of community residents in need, including families with young children, seniors and people with disabilities.
